Dr. Darious Salter
Dr. Darius Salter most recently served as senior pastor of Richardson Church of the Nazarene, Richardson, Texas. He has fulfilled the role of senior pastor for approximately twelve years in the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Friends Church, and the Church of the Nazarene. He also served as minister of Evangelism and Outreach at Portland (OR) First Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Salter is presently an elder in the Church of the Nazarene.
Dr. Salter was employed as Professor of Christian Preaching and Pastoral Theology at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1991 to 2007. He directed the Doctor of Ministry program at Nazarene Theological Seminary from 1991 to 1996, and the Supervised Ministries program from 1991 to 2001. From 1983 to 1991, he served as Chairman of the Pastoral Studies Department at Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon. His teaching areas have specialized in pastoral theology, worship, preaching, and evangelism. Other courses include Conflict Resolution, Apologetics, Urban Ministry, the Pastoral Epistles, Revivalism and Social Reform, Critical Issues for Evangelicals, Psychology of Religion, and Systematic Theology.
Dr. Salter’s educational background includes the B. A. in History from Asbury College, the Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, the Master of Philosophy and the Ph. D. in Psychology and Religion(under the broader rubric of Theology) from Drew University. He is the author of six books: Spirit and Intellect – Thomas Upham’s Holiness Theology; What Really Matters in Ministry - Profiling Pastoral Success In Flourishing Churches; American Evangelism – Its Theology and Practice; Prophetical – Priestly Ministry: The Biblical Mandate for the 21st Century Pastor; and a critical biography of Francis Asbury entitled America’s Bishop: The Life of Francis Asbury. His latest book is Preaching As Art: Biblical Storytelling for a Media Generation. He is contributing author to four other books, as well as numerous journal and religious periodicals.
Dr. Salter was executive director of the Christian Holiness Association, an interdenominational fellowship consisting of 17 denominations, 50 colleges and universities, and two missionary organizations from 1979 to 1986.
Darius Salter founded Redemptive Lift, a non-profit organization ministering to the underprivileged in Kansas City and the surrounding metropolitan area. For thirty years, he has been in regular demand as a camp meeting, revival, retreat, and seminar speaker.
Dr. Salter is married to Brenda, who is a certified public school music instructor and library media specialist. They have four daughters, Heather, Heidi, Tabitha, and Ashley.
